We here at Aviary are always excited to let the public in on some of the new features we're growing in the incubator here. You've already met Phoenix, the browser-based image editor, Peacock, our visual effects lab, and we've begun introducing new programs like Raven, the browser-based vector editor, and Toucan, the browser-based Color Swatch editor. Working tirelessly to bring you even more browser-based applications, one of the newer applications we're excited to finally release on Thanksgiving is Aviary's Turkey, the browser-based web browser.
Simply open up your internet browser of choice, go to Aviary, then press the Turkey launch button to open up your internet browser right there in your browser!
At Aviary, we're always looking to break new ground and shatter what the world's preconceived notions of what can be accomplished online. And we believe we're doing just that with Turkey, the Internet's first browser-based web browser.
And with popular features now necessary in web browsing such as tabbed browsing, surfing your favorite web pages has never been easier or more efficient!
With Aviary's Turkey, anyone with a browser and an internet connection can now browse the internet.
Just one of the wonderful things we're working on, here at Aviary!
Editor's Note: This was actually an April Fool's joke concept that made the cutting room floor originally, but looking back on it we laughed and had to share it, so why not around Thanksgiving? For early access to the more useful (and real) Aviary tools, head on over to the Aviary main site.
Edit: April 1st is actually celebrated during Thanksgiving in Canada, so this is a perfectly acceptable blog post, thank you very much.

I can't believe there's an actual use for something like this. Of course now that you mention a proxy browser that kind of utility makes sense. That's pretty funny.

I can see myself getting stuck in an infinity loop with something like this.

Are you kidding me? "Surf the web while you surf the web" ? Maybe I'm missing something. Why can't I just use my Firefox and download a few of the hundreds of Add-ons?

Now I am really confused. It really doesn't take much, either. :D

Why stop there? Why not a browser-based computer? You can do everything from install applications to putting it into sleep mode. I know it's technically possible to write a Flex app that can replace all the functionality of a computer. Or maybe you need AIR for that.

Oh this hurts my head so much! First I clicked on the turkey and thought it was an early release but then ended up back on some graphics page (aviary?). Then I felt like a turkey for falling for a wierd joke, but I saw some post about other browser-based browsers which conceivably as a proxy would be quite useful. Of course I finally felt like I had broken the browser and wanted to ask when the new version would come out to see if it would let me go somewhere besides aviary. So I looked saw the fine print after disregarding a post about this being an April fool's joke and realized that this was indeed an April fool's joke. I was relieved from having to post about how much apprehension I had over having to wait until tomorrow for the final release and public debut for which would most undoubtedly become the world's third most popular browser (or second). At least I can now feel better about spending that extra time reading the whole thing which explained about this being a joke, but now I'm somewhat disappointed after all of that excitement and feel it necessary to perhaps try to solicit a project for a new turkey on Monday. I suppose such things only happen once in a blue moon though and mine isn't coming anytime soon.

Oh, wait... I noticed the address bar reads, "vulture"-something. Maybe I got it wrong? Well maybe we'll see after turkey leftovers if there will be a browser. Since Phoenix is already taken, I suppose vulture is the logical choice. After my turkey, the leftovers getting picked on by any vulture may be mine.

such a browser would be useful if you could take things like cookies and add-ons to every machine you use.

Silly it may seem (since it would be redundant if you're using a web browser on a web browser), but it may also help if you're concerned about tracking cookies and stuff...

makes perfect sense to me in my currently addled state of mind, but i am still trying to perfect virtual memory from a virtual disc

There's an actual browser-based web browser from iCloud.

How about "Buzzard", web-based garbage collection and memory management. Or "Parrot", speech recognition package? Or "Ostrich",an enterprise license pack? Or "Eagle", for government and federal-level security? Or "Falcon", a performance package? Or "Bower", for a bunch of pretty skins? It's definitely a fertile ground for hatching other ideas.

HAHAH I love just how many people didn't get the joke. I also love how many people are so bad at irony that it appears they didn't get the joke even when they did. So when's this launching anyway? Hello?

So could an instance of Internet Exploere run Turkey, which in itself is running another instance of Turkey, which is also running Turkey?

You can--it's called a portable web browser; everything is stored on your flash drive (or in my case, the school's network drive)

I just wonder what is the point of having two browsers one inside the other . does any value to one's experience online or better search results...
Posted by Noah on 2008-12-11 15:59:04
This would make for a good proxy for getting around censorship and other things.
Posted by Nick on 2009-03-28 21:24:44
There is quite a few online browsers already. NOT including proxy browsers...

But i don't see why you should use two browsers at a time ?????????

It is depressing to get this as a first link on "Web-based web browser" in google. I could really use this (SERIOUSLY) so that I could tab-browse. Not being the admin for the computer means I can't update from pre-tabbing IE.

Um … sorry folks … way back in 2001 there was Orangatango's VirtualBrowser which was a browser-in-browser client. So that's at least one browser-based browser that predates y'all.
